Authority isn't declared, it accumulates

June 16, 2026 · 5 min read

Authority doesn't arrive the day you decide to call yourself an expert. It arrives much later, once there's enough public evidence that you know what you're talking about.

The difference between visibility and authority

Visibility is being seen. Authority is being believed. You can have thousands of followers and no authority, and also the reverse: a small audience that consults you before making important decisions.

The first can be bought. The second is built through consistency and judgment sustained over years.

Visibility is being seen. Authority is being believed.

What actually accumulates it

A published body of work. A method with a name of its own. Positions you hold even when they aren't popular. And time: none of this works in three months.

That's why the order matters. First you extract what you know, then you structure it, and only then do you publish it. Going out to communicate with nothing structured behind you produces noise, not authority.

If you're starting out, don't ask how to get more reach. Ask what you have published that someone could cite five years from now.

What if what you know were your next asset?

Everything I write here comes from the work of extracting, structuring, and publishing knowledge. Choose where to go next.
